Pastrami

After work I stopped over at 2nd Ave (kosher) Deli on 33rd between Lex and 3rd. I walk by this place everyday on my way to and from work, but never really thought to go inside until tonight. I was always curious about the hebrew-esque lettering on their sign and with Passover coming up and all, I felt an urge to enter. Speaking with a few customers I learned that many people think their pastrami sandwich trumps Katz's, so how could I walk away empty handed? A potato latke may or may not have snuck into my order as well...
Post-sandwich I did some research, and more than one site ranked 2nd Ave's pastrami sandwich above Katz's. Imagine that. Very successful food night.

Sunshine times

This weekend was sunny and warm, and I spent a lot of time outside/ a LOT of time eating good food thanks to the Joslin/Epstein clan.
Seared salmon at south 4th
A stroll across the Williamsburg Bridge. Destination: Clinton St. Bakery.
Heavenly brunch with an extra special run-in with the hostess, Miss Alexis.

And now: preparing for the big move on Saturday...

Beef Bourguignon a la Julia Child

I spent the entirety of Oscar Sunday cooking Julia Child's Beef Bourguignon. Fresh bacon and beef from Citarella were the stars of the show. After almost 3 hours in the oven, I served the beef on top of buttered noodles with parsley. De-lish.

summer

katie sent this video to me, not sure why she filmed directly in between us, but its still pretty funny. i think we are imitating someone from the street, sitting at four seasons...

family support

Parent time is the best. My dad came up two weekends in a row, and my mom has been here since last Saturday. On Friday NYU had a snow day, which conveniently cancelled my midterm exam! My mom and I took advantage of the snow storm and took a walk through central park, where we pretended to be trekking through the wilderness.

We stumbled upon The Boathouse (well, we went looking for their famous corn muffins), and treated ourselves to a fancy midday meal of crabcakes and coffee, overlooking the frozen lake.
And Saturday we were lucky enough to catch this little one!
Come back soon mah and pah.
