Sunburnt.

This weekend was pretty much a consistent 80 degrees and sunny, and I basically was on my bike (or schlepping it around) all weekend. Saturday was a bike ride down the west side of Manhattan, around Battery Park, and over the Williamsburg Bridge into Brooklyn, followed by a rousing game of Scattagories. Sunday is pictured below: bike schlepping on the LIRR, to find out that the Fire Island Ferry does not in fact allow bikes aboard. Great. A sunburnt but happy day on the island, another schlep home to make a fantastic meal (recipes here and here).

lobster roll and fried shrimp lunch
no cars allowed, just feet and pedals
too cold for a swim
exploring the island on foot
And if you think I had to go into work today, you are wrong. More bike riding, lunch at the bakery where Luna works, and a very advanced tennis match in Fort Greene Park, tennis skirt and everything. I need a vacation from my vacation before work tomorrow...

We caved and bought a window fan.

And made this great dinner to eat in the hot hot apartment. In the salad were: greens, cucumbers, avocado, strawberries, craisins, and feta cheese... and a turkey burger on ciabatta bread from Colson Patisserie in Park Slope. Summer is on its way which means a lot more salads and grillables...

Celebrate.

Here are a few shots from the small potluck we had at the beginning of the month in honor of my last final. On the eclectic menu were hamburger sliders, vegetarian zucchini sliders, potato gratin, guacamole, black beans, and fish cakes.

Happy Birthday!

Massachusetts Living.

I love Massachusetts. I just spent the most deluxe weekend with my parents in South Dartmouth, MA, and it went a little something like this: Fresh cheese, shrimp cocktail, leek salad and lobster dinner on the porch, an incredible sunset over the water, a 10 mile bike ride through the country and seashore, New Bedford's famous cheese rolls, searching for sea glass and shells, lying in the sunshine, a walk on the beach via the sea wall, glee and a little p-hood, and of course, some yard sale thrifting. A perfect weekend away, thanks guys!
welcomed with the perfect treat.

Rooftop views.

On Saturday I ventured up to our roof for a brief but relaxing tanning session. This is our grandiose view of Fort Greene Park and its historic monument.

rice rice rice.

Because I felt bad for myself, having to stay indoors on one of the nicest days new york has seen this spring (84 degrees and sunny), I was inspired to make my version of fried rice for lunch. I used some leftover rice I had from the weeknight meal below!

Here is what I did: Generously coat a large wok with oil, and cook one onion until soft and golden brown. Add minced garlic and cubed tofu. Brown over medium heat, then drizzle in some soy sauce. Next add the leftover rice and allow to cook until rice becomes golden. While its cooking, drizzle over top fish sauce and sesame oil (a little goes a long way here). Meanwhile, fry an egg. Serve the egg atop a heaping pile of fried rice, pepper the egg, and garnish with a final drizzle of sesame oil. You will NOT be disappointed.

Weeknight meal: luna's incredibly flavored black beans, ginger tofu, and cheddar cheese.
