recent food happenings

this picture looks kind of grotesque.. its not. incredible cheese on top of an olive loaf, listening to james taylor at tanglewood in august. not pictured: eggplant tapanade, stuffed grape leaves, hummus, and white wine.

surprise! i like to make tomato sauces. this one had red onion, garlic, red and yellow bell peppers, red wine, and sugar.

for a cold, this is the best remedy:
homemade chicken soup
i. in a large pot: various raw chicken parts (thighs, drumsticks, breast), roughly chopped carrots, celery, onion, lots of fresh dill, some fresh thyme and tarragon, a lot of salt, and pepper.

ii. pour water over all ingredients until completely covered.

iii. heat on medium to a boil. once boiling, uncap slightly to allow some steam to escape, and cook on med-low or low for about 45 minutes - 1 hr. stir occasionally.

iv. once chicken is cooked, strain soup into bowl. remove chicken from the bone and add some to soup. add some of the carrots back into the soup. (you can use the leftover cooked chicken to make something else yummy).

v. eat soup hot! can keep in fridge, if layer of fat forms (eww), scoop off with a spoon.
